ADX Cross Hull Style Indicator V1.0 MT4 – Smoother, Earlier Trend Crosses

Tired of clunky laggy signals that always seem to arrive after the move? Same. That’s why we put together the ADX Cross Hull Style Indicator V1.0 MT4—a clean, free tool on ForexFactory.cc, powered by YoForex. It blends the directional strength of ADX with the silky-smooth slope changes of the Hull Moving Average (HMA), so you get earlier entries and fewer whipsaws on choppy days. It’s lightweight, easy to install, and yes—100% free. No subscriptions, no license headaches… just download and trade.

Heads-up: The indicator is compiled for MT4 (.ex4). A matching MT5 build is available in most cases. If you’re strictly on MT5, grab it from the same page once published—or ping support if you can’t spot it.

Time frames: M5, M15, H1 (also works on H4/D1 if you prefer swing trades)
Min / Recommended deposit: $200
Currency pairs: XAUUSD (Gold), EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, BTCUSD (plus other majors/crypto CFDs with sensible spreads)

Overview

The ADX Cross Hull Style Indicator V1.0 MT4 marries two battle-tested ideas:

  • ADX/DI for measuring trend strength and direction (via +DI and –DI crosses), and

  • Hull Moving Average to reduce noise while reacting faster than standard MAs.

In plain English? When +DI powers above –DI and the Hull MA slope flips up, you get a clearer long bias. When –DI takes control and the Hull MA rolls down, you’ve got a clean short bias. This confluence cuts down the “maybe” signals and favors moments where momentum and direction actually agree.

The indicator paints intuitive visual cues: color/slope changes on the Hull, and crisp DI cross markers. You can apply it to M5–H1 for scalps to intraday swings. For higher-timeframe confirmation (H4/D1), it’s solid too; just expect fewer signals but broader moves.

YoForex tested the logic across gold (XAUUSD), major FX pairs, and BTCUSD for those who like volatility. It’s not a black-box robot—it’s your directional compass, especially useful before news or during trend continuation phases when entries tend to be messy.

How It Works (in 60 seconds)

  1. Directional Strength (ADX/DI):

  • +DI > –DI suggests buyers dominate.

  • –DI > +DI suggests sellers dominate.

  • Optional: ADX threshold (e.g., ≥20–25) to filter weak trends.

      2. Noise-Reduced Trend (Hull MA):

  • Hull slope up = bullish bias.

  • Hull slope down = bearish bias.

  • The Hull construction reduces lag vs. SMA/EMA, so signals feel “earlier,” not magical.

      3. Confluence = Higher-Quality Signals:

  • Long when +DI cross up aligns with Hull slope up.

  • Short when –DI cross up aligns with Hull slope down.

Recommended Settings (starter template)

  • Hull Moving Average Period: 21 (try 13 for ultra-fast scalps; 34–55 for calmer swings)

  • Price: Close (or Typical Price HL/3 if you prefer)

  • ADX Period: 14 (common default; try 18–21 if your instrument is noisy)

  • ADX Threshold Filter: 20–25 (set to 0 to disable filtering)

  • Timeframes:

  1. M5 / M15 for scalps and quick intraday rotations

  2. H1 for intraday swings with calmer noise

  3. H4/D1 for directional bias and confirmation

  • Pairs / Symbols: XAUUSD, EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, BTCUSD (plus other majors & crypto CFDs with tight spreads)

  • Risk Note: This is an indicator (not an EA). Position sizing still matters—on a $200 account, keep lots modest (e.g., 0.01) and stop placement disciplined.

“Backtest” & Forward Test the Right Way

Because this is an indicator, not an EA, you evaluate it differently:

  • Visual Backtest in MT4:

  1. Load a clean chart (e.g., XAUUSD M15).

  2. Scroll back 3–6 months.

  3. Step forward candle by candle (F12) and note each DI cross + Hull slope confluence.

  4. Log the outcome after your chosen stop/target rules (e.g., fixed SL/TP, swing high/low, or trailing stop).

  • Forward Test on Demo:
Attach the indicator to your live charts and watch signals play out in real time. Use alerts if you’d like. Keep a journal: entry reason, time, SL/TP logic, result, and a screenshot. After ~2–4 weeks you’ll know which timeframe + pair + settings fit you best.

Expectations:

  • On Gold/BTC, you’ll see more frequent signals (and bigger candles); consider a slightly higher ADX filter or a slower Hull (34/55).

  • On majors, M15–H1 can feel very balanced—fewer fake flips, cleaner runs, especially during London/NY overlap.

Pro tip: If you hate whipsaws, layer a higher-TF Hull (e.g., H1) as a bias filter on your M15 chart. Trade only in the direction of the higher-TF slope.

Installation & Setup (MT4)

  1. Download the indicator from ForexFactory.ccIndicator Section (search “ADX Cross Hull Style”).

  2. Copy the file ADX-Cross-Hull-Style.ex4 into:
    File > Open Data Folder > MQL4 > Indicators

  3. Restart MT4 (or right-click Indicators in Navigator and hit Refresh).

  4. Attach to your chart (XAUUSD/EURUSD/etc.) and choose M5, M15, or H1.

  5. Inputs: set your Hull period (start at 21), ADX period (14), and ADX threshold (20–25).

  6. Save a Template so you can load it quickly across symbols.

Signal Playbook (example)

  • Long setup: +DI crosses above –DI while Hull slope flips up; ADX ≥ threshold (optional).

  1. Stop ideas: last swing low; or fixed pip value; or ATR-based.

  2. Target ideas: 1R–2R fixed, next structure level, or trail below Hull.

  • Short setup: –DI crosses above +DI with Hull slope down; ADX ≥ threshold (optional).

  1. Same SL/TP logic as above, inverted.

If you’re new, start with 1:1 to 1:1.5 R and a fixed stop just beyond the recent structure. When comfortable, layer trailing or partials.
